Week of September 9, 2019

This week's photo features our parent luncheon that took place over the summer. Our PS596X parents were invited to take part in this luncheon to celebrate the achievements of their child during the 2018 - 2019 school year. The parents were treated to lunch and were given a photo of their child to decorate at the luncheon. Parents also had an opportunity to share success stories about their child. "Because You Celebrate Your Child's smallest milestones because they are precious"
It’s easy for parents of children with autism to get wrapped up in their child’s challenges and deficits. The systems of special education and disability care are focused on challenges and deficits. It takes a strong parent to manage those concerns and take the time to notice, delight in, and celebrate their child’s abilities and achievements.

Week of September 16, 2019

This week's photos feature class Y01 at our 178 site. The students of class Y01 at PS178 are learning about apples! Next, the students had a “taste test”. Each student tasted red, green and yellow apples. After trying each type of apple, students recorded whether or not they liked the taste. This was a fun and engaging activity for the students and the staff!
