NYC School Survey
Your School. Your Child. Your Voice.
Every year, we ask all families, teachers, and staff of grades 3-K through 12, and students in grades 6-12 to take the NYC School Survey. The survey gives school leaders a better understanding of what members of their school community think about their school. The information collected by the survey is designed to support a dialogue among all members of the school community about how to make the school a better place to learn.
Instructions for Families:
If your student is in a NYCPS, you will need your child’s nine-digit student identification number, or OSIS, to begin filling out your survey online.
You can find the OSIS on your student’s report card.

PHOTO OF
THE WEEK
Week of March 10, 2025
This week's photos feature our 50 Shades of Melanin event at all three of our sites. On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, staff and students were asked to wear any shade of brown to show togetherness and diversity. This event was created by paraprofessional Sabely DeLosSantos in honor of Black History Month! The month long commemoration of African American history and achievement takes place each February in the United States. It was started in 1976. The students and staff enjoyed taking part in this event!

Former P596X student Joliah Ceda drew and created our school logo.
WELCOME
Welcome to P.S. 596X! We are a district 75 New York City Public School serving students on the autism spectrum and other special needs from Pre-K through age 11 in three co-located sites: 11X178, 11X153 and 11X498.
Through this website, you will be able to step into our classrooms and hallways to get an idea of the wide variety of creative programs and practices in which students participate on a daily basis.
Our commitment is to provide the highest quality, state of the art instructional programs to our students, and to offer parents workshops and activities to equip themselves with the skills to best help their child. Through hands-on learning and fun-filled opportunities, our students make tremendous gains in social skills, language, and academics.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
March - April
Carl and the Meaning of Life by Deborah Freedman

What is the book of the month?
We have selected books that relate to our ReThink social/emotional curriculum. Bi-monthly, teachers and coaches will collaborate to unpack each book and design lessons, adaptations and resources to support the book’s topics. Our goal is to build on our students’ knowledge and understanding of social emotional concepts through literacy, vocabulary, writing, and discussions!
How can you get involved?
We would really love for the activities we complete at school, to also be reinforced at home. For starters, tune in to hear Principal John read the Book during a special pajama read aloud! You will find resources and activities for the book in the book of the month letter. This includes the targeted vocabulary words, and some fun activities you can do at home or in the community with your child!
